Jonathan Chavez is a decorated veteran that served in the United States Air Force medical field for over 23 years including tours in Iraq. While in Iraq, Jonathan Chavez was the non-commissioned officer in charge of a joint service medical team of 12 members he led through over 400 trauma situations in support of the largest forward deployed Air Force Theater Hospital since the Vietnam War in a combat environment. Recognized as the subject matter expert in the Iraqi Area of Responsibility, he was personally requested by the medical commander at a local forward operating base (FOB) in Iraq for a mission to instruct other medical technicians in radiography.
When an Icelandic Volcano eruption diverted aeromedical evacuation flights and his expeditionary medical group became the sole Central Command hub, Jonathan Chavez provided logistical support to expand bed capacity and provide a safe haven for over 400 personnel in Iraq. During his deployment, Jonathan Chavez had only one day off per week and spent that time volunteering at the Contingency Aeromedical Staging Facility to help organize and transport critical care patients to the next echelon of care.
Because of his efforts in Iraq, his command awarded him a Commendation Medal for Leadership and he was lauded by the Surgeon General of the Air Force, the Army Command Sergeant Major of Iraqi Forces, the Chief Trauma Surgeon in Iraq, the Chief Master Sergeant of the expeditionary Group and his Commander for exemplary leadership. Jonathan Chavez has also volunteered his time in the military to serving in humanitarian missions overseas to countries that were devastated by economic decline. His direction included teaching medical care and CPR to the local population in addition to leading efforts to set up medical clinics in countries such as Ecuador to provide the local community with much needed medical care. His efforts led to receiving various Achievement Medals for directing the troops under his command.
After leaving the military, he finished his Bachelors in Science at the University of New Mexico School of Medicine and went on to earn a Master's degree from Harvard University and Johns Hopkins University. Currently, he lives in Conyers, GA with his wife and three kids. He currently owns his own business and strives to help the community.
Recently, Jonathan Chavez was Chairman of the Rockdale GOP helping organize committees and meetings. Leading the Rockdale GOP Executive committee to help bring change to the citizens of Rockdale.
Jonathan Chavez has always set his standards high and has decided to utilize his skills and education to fight in Congress for the 13th district in Georgia. He will not stop fighting until a proper balance has been reached and the citizens in the 13th district and in Georgia have a leader they can rely on.
